A Guide to Walt Disney World, Florida

November 29, 2018

Last month, Max and I went on the most magical trip to Walt Disney World, Florida. It’s been years since either of us have visited and with so many new rides and attractions, it felt like we were experiencing everything for the first time again.

We purchased Disney’s Ultimate 7-Day Ticket, which gave us unlimited access to all of the 4 theme parks and 2 water parks, as well as a complimentary Memory Maker (worth $199). This ticket was perfect for us as we were able to experience everything we wanted to do without feeling rushed.

With so much to do, see and explore, planning your trip in advance is essential. If you’re organising a trip to Disney World, you’re in the right place. Continue reading for my top tips, the best rides for fast passes and everything else you need to know…

Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom is without a doubt the most iconic theme park in the entire world and my personal favourite. There’s no feeling quite like walking in to Magic Kingdom and seeing Cinderella’s castle (I always get goose bumps). This is my favourite park to walk around and experience all of the Disney magic.

Tip: arrive 10 minutes before the park opens to watch the opening ceremony to get you in the Disney mood (if you’re not already).

The first day we visited Magic Kingdom was at the end of October, so the entire park was decorated with Mickey pumpkins and beautiful autumnal wreaths. We went back during the first week of November and the park had been transformed into a Christmas wonderland. There were Christmas trees and fairy lights everywhere. We were so lucky to see the park in both seasons. During these times of year, there are themed evening events, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. If you want to attend these events, separate tickets need to be purchased (your normal admission ticket won’t get you in).

Somehow, Magic Kingdom becomes even more magical in the evening, so make sure you stay for the Happily Ever After firework display. The fireworks take place most evenings at 9pm (but check before you go). I guarantee these will be the best fireworks you ever see!

I recommend getting fast passes for:

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

I just love Hollywood Studios! There are so many amazing rides and attractions and it’s one of my favourite parks to walk around.

They have recently built the new Toy Story Land, which for any fan of the film will be a dream come true. There are fast passes available for all three rides in this land: Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers and Toy Story Mania! I would recommend booking a fast pass for the Slinky ride as soon as you can, as the queues for this ride get exceptionally long (we had to wait for 75 minutes). Toy Story Mania is my personal favourite in this land, I could go on it all day long.

If you’re a huge Star Wars fan, I’d recommend visiting at the end of 2019 when the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens.

Hollywood Studios is one of my favourite parks, it’s so pretty! Everywhere looks like a 1950’s Hollywood film set, so there’s plenty of photo opportunities. This is a great place to make use of the Memory Maker.

If you’re visiting Hollywood Studios in the evening, stay for the Fantasmic Show and Fireworks!

I recommend getting fast passes for:

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

I was most excited  to visit Animal Kingdom this time round because they have recently built a whole new land, Pandora – World of Avatar. Walking in to Pandora is breath-taking, the intricate details are mesmerising. We managed to experience the most popular ride at the moment, Flight of Passage, and trust me it was worth every second of the 3 hour wait. This ride allows guests to connect to their own unique banshee and fly above the Valley of Mo’ara. It truly felt like I was flying, the graphics were so realistic and immersive.

Animal Kingdom has so much to offer, I love the safaris and seeing the animals throughout the park.

Stay for the Rivers of Light evening show, to have the complete Animal Kingdom experience.

I recommend getting fast passes for:

Epcot

Epcot is such a fascinating park, that has so much to offer! Not only are there amazing rides and attractions but there are educational hubs too. Epcot offers a World Showcase, where you can meet Belle in France, Mulan in China and Snow White in Germany. With so many varied restaurants, this is a great park to have dinner. I also recommend staying for the spectacular evening IllumiNations fireworks display, make sure you arrive with plenty of time to get a great viewing spot, it can get very busy!

I recommend getting fast passes for:
