Last summer I visited Barbados with my family. We all love the Caribbean and we were so excited to return to one of our all-time favourite destinations. This time round we stayed at Sandals Barbados, the ultimate all-inclusive resort! Our trip was so luxurious and relaxing that we are all returning to another Sandals resort in Antigua next month. Continue reading for my Barbados Sandals Review.
I have stayed in lots of all-inclusive resorts before, but nothing quite compares to Sandals. It has become one of the most well-known and award-winning all-inclusive hotel groups in the world. Sandals has truly mastered the art of creating a romantic resort experience for couples on vacation. Everything is so carefully thought out and focused on ensuring you have the best time with your partner (or in our case, our family). As Sandals is an adults-only resort, it’s mostly centred around couples, however, there are still plenty of large groups and families who visit. Sandals resorts are located throughout the Caribbean including Barbados, Antigua, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Jamaica and The Bahamas. Each resort offers a beachside location, luxurious accommodation, beautiful cuisine and so much more.
It’s pretty easy to get to Barbados from the UK as there are plenty of direct flights, taking a total of 9 hours. We flew with Virgin in Upper Class, which was the best way to start our holiday! The Virgin cabin crew are always amazing, they went above and beyond throughout our whole flight. When we landed in Bridgetown (the Capital of Barbados) we felt pretty fresh and raring to go for our first night on the island.
When booking a holiday to Sandals you get transfers to and from the airport included (bonus!). The resort is only a short 15 minute drive from the airport, so we got there in no time.
The welcome from the hotel staff is so lovely, they make you feel right at home from the second you get there. You are given welcome cocktails and a wet towel to cool yourself down as you adjust to the Caribbean heat and humidity.
My sister and I stayed in a Club Level Luxury Honeymoon Suite with a pool view (how romantic). The room was so modern and sleek, this made such a difference to most accommodation types in the Caribbean. One of my favourite features of the room was the Tranquility Soaking Tub on the balcony, this was the perfect spot to watch the sun set over the beautiful island. Also, the mini fridge in the room was stocked up with champagne, beer, wine and soft drinks with a selection of premium spirits. But, if we fancied a cocktail we could just call for room service and our pina colada would be right there.
Sandals Barbados has the best selection of restaurants in any all-inclusive resort I have visited. There is such a diverse range of cuisine, you could never get bored.
Bombay Club: A beautiful Indian restaurant. The food tasted so authentic and delicious, this was definitely one of my favourite meals of the whole trip!
Butch’s Chophouse: An A La Carte Steakhouse, with a New York flair. I opted for the surf and turf, a grilled filet mignon with lobster. The food was sensational!
Café de Paris: The cutest little bakery serving cakes, pastries and coffee. The ideal daytime spot for any sweet cravings!
Dino’s Pizzeria: It’s safe to say I spent every lunchtime at this authentic Italian pizzeria. I was in pizza heaven!
The Merry Monkey: A truly authentic English pub, serving gastro food. You do feel like you’ve been transported back to England with the cosy, traditional décor, but as soon as you leave you’re right back in the Caribbean – phew!
Kimonos: An exotic restaurant serving Japanese cuisine, Teppanyaki style. This was such a fun restaurant, the chefs are brilliantly entertaining as they show off their skills as they cook you dinner.
Portofino’s: An al fresco eatery, offering the finest Italian dishes. The open-air atmosphere and location next to the pool makes the perfect dinner spot.
Soy: An authentic sushi bar experience, you can watch the chefs prepare the sushi rolls right in front of your eyes.
All of these restaurants were included and you could eat as much or as little as you desire! We were so spoilt for choice when it came to meal time, every restaurant was amazing.
Every day there is a plenty of entertainment around the resort, from themed nights to activities in the pool – there is something for everyone. During the day, take your pick from beach volleyball, table tennis to the state-of-the-art gyms, or even try the included water sports. The evenings are so much fun at Sandals Barbados everyone is up dancing to the calypso beats and enjoying themselves. The entertainment team at Sandals are fantastic!
Sandals Barbados is located in St. Lawrence Gap, the vibrant hub of Barbados. There are lots of bars, restaurants and clubs to choose from. Tourists and locals hang out here as it is so much fun. If you are there on a Friday, be sure to check out Oistin’s Fish Fry, the place to be on a Friday night! If you fancy exploring outside of the resort, this is right on your doorstep.
The Sandals resort in Barbados has been extended since my last trip in 2017, with the addition of Sandals Royal Barbados which opened earlier this year. So, it is even bigger and better now as there are 5 pools, 17 restaurants and 12 bars. The two resorts are next door and whichever resort you decide to stay in you still have complete access to the other side. I can’t wait to return and experience the Sandals Royal Barbados!
Sandals Barbados is the place to go if you’re after luxury and relaxation. I can’t wait to visit Sandals Grande Antigua next month and see how it compares to Barbados. Look out for the review that I’ll be posting soon.
